A pleasant evening!
I am deeply honored and humbled to stand before you today as the President-Elect of our FEU-NRMF Medical Alumni Society. I accept this responsibility with gratitude, a strong sense of duty, and great optimism for what we can achieve together.
Our alumni society is not just a group of medical graduates who have sworn in as members to the society, but rather, it is an active and vibrant community bound by shared values, rigorous training, and a lifelong commitment to compassionate service, healing and academic excellence. Wherever place we practice or whatever paths we have chosen to take, we remain united by the institution that shaped us and by the profession that calls us to serve humanity with integrity and compassion.
I would like to sincerely thank our outgoing leadership for their dedication and tireless service. Their efforts have strengthened this society and laid a solid foundation upon which we can continue to build. I also extend my appreciation to all members who continue to give their time, wisdom, and support to keep this society vibrant and relevant.
As President-Elect, my term will be rooted on the theme “Stewards of Legacy, Partners in Progress”. This vision is anchored on three fundamental principles: COLLABORATION, CONTRIBUTION, AND CONTINUITY.
First, COLLABORATION.
Collaboration entails fostering strong, enduring relationships through continuous and transparent communication with the administrators of FEU, the School of Medicine, our U.S. Alumni and even the FEU Medical Center.
Equally important is engaging and collaborating with our members and alumni.
In the previous years, we have already created 2 alumni chapters; one in Isabela and the other in Nueva Ecija. The Bicol region is presently finalizing their plans on creating a chapter of their own. I intend to continue and encourage creation of additional regional chapters because we are well aware that many of our graduates are spread throughout the country. I intend to persist in strengthening these bonds among alumni across generations, specialties, and geographical boundaries. Through meaningful engagement, mentorship, and connectivity, (be reminded that we have already created a website for this purpose) we can foster a sense of belonging to ensure that every member and alumnus feels valued and truly engaged in the society. Collaboration also entails strengthening our bonds and relationship with the FEU administrators and officers of the School of Medicine.
Second, CONTRIBUTION. As medical professionals, we carry a responsibility not only to our patients, and to the society at large but also importantly, to our institution who laid the basic foundation of our learnings and shaped our careers. Together, we can support our medical students, the future physicians of the country, promote professional development, encourage research and innovation, and contribute to community health initiatives that reflect the highest ideals of our profession. During the past two days of the scientific convention, I have witnessed and observed the exemplary presentations of our speakers, clearly reflecting their potential to be outstanding mentors and teachers to our students.
I earnestly encourage our graduates and alumni to return to our institution and serve as faculty members, where they can play a vital role in strengthening medical education and mentoring future doctors. Likewise, as envisioned by the previous Board, improvement in the learning facilities of the School of Medicine. Previous batches have already contributed in one way or another to the institution, so let us continue to be involved in the further improvement and advancement of our learning materials. In this way, we can help support our goal of academic excellence.
Third, CONTINUITY. A strong alumni society honors its past and respects the traditions that have been practiced by our predecessors while we are shaping for a future worthy of the next generation. By preserving our traditions and embracing new ideas and technologies, we can ensure that this society remains dynamic, inclusive, and impactful for generations to come. I do not intend to implement earth-shaking changes in the society but rather continue the worthwhile projects that have been developed in the recent past.
I do not see this role as a position of authority, but as a commitment to service. I accept this role in a spirit of stewardship, mindful that our society is not ours to possess but ours to safeguard- honoring its legacy while strengthening it for the generations to come. I look forward to working closely with the board of directors and as stewards of this society, we are entrusted with more than an organization; we are entrusted with a shared legacy of service, learning and compassion. To the faculty, and every member of this society, your ideas, participation, and support will be essential to our shared success.
In closing, I ask for your cooperation, your guidance, and your partnership. Together, let us strengthen our alumni society, uplift our institution, protecting what matters and continue to serve the medical profession with excellence and honor.
Thank you very much for this privilege and the trust that you have afforded me. With utmost enthusiasm, I look forward to the journey ahead.
God bless us all!
