The Beginnings of Santiago City Chapter of FEU-NRMF MAS
The Santiago City Chapter of FEUNRMF-MAS was silently organized with the advice of Dr Abigail Castro, the Vice Dean of the FEUNRMF-Institute of Medicine. In March 20, 2020, with the advent of the Covid Pandemic, it started as a chat hub for the purpose of searching the alumni of FEUNRMF- College of Medicine. With the support of the Santiago City Medical Society and our colleagues like, Dr David Kelvin Co and Dr Ves Ramones we were able to gather with seventy-three alumni as of 2025.
Initially, this hub became a “solace zone” for fellow alumni during the pandemic where bulk of information, issues and concerns about the covid pandemic were sent and posted. Likewise, prayers and comforting words were posted. For the uncertainty of the time, comfort for affected families, and news about the victims of covid flooded the chat hub.
There were also happy moments in this hub, i.e., about the developmental milestones of our alma matter, the successful physicians who passed the licensure examinations and other achievements of our professors as well as the students. Whatever success achieved is also our joy. Memorable stories and experiences which pop out of our minds were shared countless times.
In November 2020, the worst typhoon hit Region 2. During the typhoon Ulysses, torrential rains and flash flood engulfed and destroyed many houses, rice fields and livelihoods amidst of the covid pandemia. FEUNRMF alumni from the national chapter and other regions, including the United States and other countries sent donations for our fellow “kababayans” afflicted by the ravage of the typhoon. They were endorsed to fellow alumni in Santiago City for the typhoon and covid victims. A big amount came from batch 1984. Groceries were packed in smaller bags to serve many victims in different areas (see attached documentations under ACTIVITIES). With the banner of FEUNRMF MAS, local alumni went out of their busy practice to distribute these donations. Communication was done through this hub. During this time, we felt that collaboration among alumni and compassion to the needy are vital in showing our strength and unity. Our commitment to engage in “organizational social responsibility” creates a thriving environment for growth and success. It defines our role as complete physicians and alumni of a prestigious college of medicine.
With the seventy-three (73) strong members in this hub, we notified the national alumni secretariat that we are ready to be part of the national organization of the medical alumni of FEU NRMF College of Medicine, hence the election of our officers and the recognition of Santiago City Chapter.
