A Historical Visit

FEU tops, garners 7 others, in 1961 medical board exam

FEU Class of 1961 garnered the first place and 7 other spots in the 1961 Philippine medical board examination. UST got the remaining two places, the 4th and 8th.

“This historical first, still an unequalled feat in the annals of any medical board examination in the country or in any other countries in the world, puts the FEU Institute of Medicine-NRMF on the map for excellent medical education,” stated US-based cardiac surgeon Philip S. Chua, MD, FACS, FPCS, Class ’61 president and former Board Trustee of the FEU-NRMF with a 10-year tenure (2008-2018).

Many of the members of Class ‘61 went into private practice in the Philippines and abroad, some in academia in the United States and in the Philippines, like OB-Gynecologist Lilia Pagtakhan-Luna, MD, MHA, FPOGS, who was Chairperson of the OB-Gyne Department, Chief of Clinics, and FEU-NRMF hospital director from 1985 to 2003). She is also very active medical leader in organized medicine in the Philippines.
